Wastewater Treatment
Homes and businesses within the City of Westfir have two methods of wastewater treatment.
For lots located on the south side of the North Fork, septic tanks are used. These are installed, owned and maintained by property owners and subject to agency permitting and regulation.
For lots located on the north side of the North Fork (in the Hemlock Platt), there is a state of the art wastewater treatment plant. Owned and operated by The City of Westfir, this facility went online in mid-2008. The plant uses a variety of methods to reduce maintenance and operations costs, such as gravity assisted flow, settling tanks, flora to assist in breaking down of waste, and ultraviolet lights to kill harmful bacteria and eliminate the need for chlorination. The plant was designed by HGE, Inc. and is one of two of its kind within the State of Oregon.
